What is the REA?

The Richmond Education Association is the local union affiliate of the Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association, representing more than 2.5 million public school employees nationwide.

Locally, the REA represents more than 2,500 Richmond public school employees, which provides representation, job protection, and membership services directly to the employees of the Richmond Public Schools.

What can the REA do for me?

The REA gives you power - power that can determine employee policies, job security, fair hearing of grievances, better salaries, improved retirement, and other benefits.

The REA provides you with an effective voice in decisions affecting your employment and improving your working conditions. With REA you get job protection and employment advocacy.

Just talking isn't enough. You have to be heard and all by yourself, its hard to be heard. Big departments, big government and rules made by people who don't know your problems can leave school employees without a voice unless they organize.
Through REA, school employees have a voice  - one that is heard on the job, in the classroom, in the legislature, and in City Hall.
